Iskandar Ismail

Iskandar Ismail, the music director of NUS Jazz Band, is an accomplished musician, a much sought-after composer, producer, music arranger, music director, conductor and orchestra conductor. He has composed and arranged music for local and foreign stars of leading record companies, including Dick Lee, Jimmy Ye and Jacintha Abishergenaden.
As Singapore’s leading music arranger, he has composed and arranged for important national events, such as the Singapore National Day Parade since 1988. Iskandar has also created orchestral arrangements for Singapore musicals such as Sing To The Dawn (1996), as well as for the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra.
For his illustrious achievements, Iskandar was awarded The Cultural Medallion (Music Category) in 2008. NUS Jazz Band is thankful for his guidance and the wealth of experience and skill he offers.
John Lee
John Lee is the ultimate music man. He is a tenor of Vocaluptuous, the premier local a capella group which has won local and foreign audiences with their vocal renditions. John has also ventured into acting, notably playing Larry Tan, the patriarch of the tumultuously hilarious Tan family in Sayang Sayang. John is our vocal coach and thanks to his guidance and patience, our vocalists find their voice in NUS Jazz Band.
Tan Chin Boo
Tan Chin Boo joined NUS Jazz Band as the conductor in 2006 with more than 26 years of professional music experience. A scholar from then Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (now known as Mediacorp), he holds an Honours degree in Electronic Music & Commercial Music Arranging from Berklee College of Music, USA. A self-taught percussionist who was the Music Director and then Head of Audio post in SBC, Chin Boo shows remarkable versatility, skill and experience. He headed the audio section and lectures in Audio Technology and Productions, Sound for Picture and Electronic Music in the School of Film & Media Studies in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and was awarded the Teaching Award in 2006. Hence NUS Jazz Band is fortunate to be under his very guidance.
